Christmas Countdown Party! WHOO! Off to Florida for Christmas!
Advice from an author number 12 – writers block? Push through it! It’s worth it in the end.
The Christmas Countdown is going strong. Today I started packing. For Christmas I’m heading off to sunny climates – and maybe somewhat humid ones – to Florida. My partner is out there on a business venture. It’s going to be lovely.
Advice from an author number … 12 … I think.
Work to a deadline if you need too. Plot, plot, plot, and over write. Over writing is better than under writing, because it’s easier to take things out, than add things in. Also, if it’s accepted for publication, the editor will want some bits removed. You enough to have a fighting ground.
So there are 15 days until Christmas. Advice … start early, or like me, you’ll be having a last minute dash.
Advice from an author number 8 – if you are worried that you’re first paragraph will not keep your readers reading, then write several different versions and email them to extremely close friends. Don’t tell them what it’s for. Just ask them which paragraph is the most interesting. Then go with the majority vote and work it into your chapter 1.
So I’ve made a start. I’ve made some of my Christmas list. As I’m off to Florida in 2 weeks I really should get done. I normally start in September. When do you start?
17 days until Christmas!
Advice from an author number 7 – nothing beats a good pen and paper. Get some food and coffee in a cafe, and write, write, and write, your first draft until your hand aches. It proved for J.K. Rowling that it was a good technique. I’m not her, but using this method works for me too. Actually, it was the method I used when I was at college and drama school. I got fantastic results. It really does work!
