16 Days until Christmas

The beautiful Christmas lights are starting to go up in Japan. Exciting!

Advice from an author number 7 – when writing chapter 1 remember that the first paragraph is the most important paragraph you will write in your book. It’s the paragraph that will draw people in and want to read it.

17 Days Until Christmas

So I’ve made a start. I’ve made some of my Christmas list. As I’m off to Florida in 2 weeks I really should get done. I normally start in September. When do you start?

17 days until Christmas!

Advice from an author number 7 – nothing beats a good pen and paper. Get some food and coffee in a cafe, and write, write, and write, your first draft until your hand aches. It proved for J.K. Rowling that it was a good technique. I’m not her, but using this method works for me too. Actually, it was the method I used when I was at college and drama school. I got fantastic results. It really does work!

Christmas Countdown

Christmas countdown … Love it! 18 days to go and I still haven’t bought my Christmas presents.

Advice from an author number 6 – after breaking your chapters down in preparation, do any research that you may need and add it to your preparation notes.

Christmas Countdown

It’s the Christmas Countdown. I really should make my Christmas list.

Advice from an author number 5 – once you have finished planning, break down each chapter and plan in detail. Plan your characters, plan the plot of the chapter, discriptions, and sub plots.

Christmas Countdown

Author advice number 4 – if you think you’ve planned well … then plan and replan again.

On the side note … I must start thinking about those Christmas presents. It’s hard to do with living in Japan.

Introducing…

Food is definitely for thought. If you don’t eat, you can’t repair your body. If you don’t eat, you can’t think. If you don’t eat, you can starve. If you don’t eat, you can’t write.

Today I’m preparing to introduce two new characters into my current project. One seems to be quite fun to write, but it is utterly complex. I’m hoping that today’s lunch of shrimp and tuna panini, salad, crab and tomato soup, with a cup of coffee will be enough fuel to write at least two pages.

I really need to introduce these characters. One plays a huge part in the story.

My motto today is eat, stay healthy, and try to finish the chapter. That way you can really get into the super juicy parts.

The Popular Choice, not the Latter.

Writing is hard knock. I’m always getting into writers block…well on one book anyway.

I overcame the hurdle though. I scraped it and started again… 4 times. Now I have something that will work.

Now there’s a battle in my mind.  I’m the popular choice, not the latter. I’ll leave you to figure that out. Leave me an answer.
