12 Days Until Christmas

Today I’ll be going out for Christmas coffee and write, write, write! Why? Because I have time.

Author advice number 10 – if you can trust one friend who’s not interested in writing, but likes reading, then maybe you can consider them to be your harsh critic before you send it to publishers.

13 Days Until Christmas!

It’s getting a lot closer. When I am not writing I also work with children. We worked on Christmas decorations this week. We made a Santa and a Christmas tree and other things.

The children are getting very excited.
Advice from an author number 9 – write when you have time.

15 Days Until Christmas

So there are 15 days until Christmas. Advice … start early, or like me, you’ll be having a last minute dash.

Advice from an author number 8 – if you are worried that you’re first paragraph will not keep your readers reading, then write several different versions and email them to extremely close friends. Don’t tell them what it’s for. Just ask them which paragraph is the most interesting. Then go with the majority vote and work it into your chapter 1.

16 Days until Christmas

The beautiful Christmas lights are starting to go up in Japan. Exciting!

Advice from an author number 7 – when writing chapter 1 remember that the first paragraph is the most important paragraph you will write in your book. It’s the paragraph that will draw people in and want to read it.

17 Days Until Christmas

So I’ve made a start. I’ve made some of my Christmas list. As I’m off to Florida in 2 weeks I really should get done. I normally start in September. When do you start?

17 days until Christmas!

Advice from an author number 7 – nothing beats a good pen and paper. Get some food and coffee in a cafe, and write, write, and write, your first draft until your hand aches. It proved for J.K. Rowling that it was a good technique. I’m not her, but using this method works for me too. Actually, it was the method I used when I was at college and drama school. I got fantastic results. It really does work!

Christmas Countdown

Christmas countdown … Love it! 18 days to go and I still haven’t bought my Christmas presents.

Advice from an author number 6 – after breaking your chapters down in preparation, do any research that you may need and add it to your preparation notes.

Christmas Countdown

It’s the Christmas Countdown. I really should make my Christmas list.

Advice from an author number 5 – once you have finished planning, break down each chapter and plan in detail. Plan your characters, plan the plot of the chapter, discriptions, and sub plots.

Christmas Countdown

Author advice number 4 – if you think you’ve planned well … then plan and replan again.

On the side note … I must start thinking about those Christmas presents. It’s hard to do with living in Japan.

Christmas Countdown

Advice number three from an author – over plan. It’s bad to under plan. If you under plan, you might get writers block.

On a side note, it’s 21 days until Christmas. It’s time to go rocking around that Christmas tree.
